Welcome to an exciting new learning experience!
You are about to discover the world of folk story themes and folk story analysis. Learn to use the innovative tools of interactive storytelling. They are designed to enhance your counseling techniques in working with abused and sexually assaulted women.
Through interactive storytelling, you can greatly reduce the period of resistance and denial among the women you help, allowing you more time to focus directly on abuse and sexual assault issues. By including folk story analysis in your work, you can more quickly empower abused and assaulted women to find deeper insights, clearer self-understanding and creative alternatives to very difficult situations.
In this online workshop, you are your own student and teacher. You learn at your own pace; and please know we are available to provide moral and technical support whenever needed. You will find interactive storytelling an invaluable addition to your practice.
The Self-Study Course is designed for coalition and rape crisis personnel (facilitators, advocates, staff, volunteers, students), for private practitioners, and for allied service providers who work with victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.
We recognize the need for interactive storytelling to help address the problems of men who suffer from domestic abuse, of both men and women who are perpetrators of domestic violence, and of young adults for whom prevention programs are vital. These areas, which require their own unique folk story techniques, will be addressed in later skills-training programs.
Lenora Ucko, PhD, StoriesWork Executive Director, has taught interactive storytelling for over twenty years. She conducts workshops in many parts of the country, has taught in graduate schools of social work, and has published extensively. She can be reached by email.
